Researchers seek UK 'soundscapes' (BBC tech)

A project has launched to capture the sounds of UK locations, mapping them to create “soundscapes” that can be visited by users of the project’s site.

Participants are asked to record 5 - 10 second intervals of sound using their mobile phones, describing where and why they took the recording.

Web Directions & Typographic Structure

Mark Boulton’s write up on his Web Directions South (#wds09) presentation on Typographic Structure. One of the best things I got out of his talk was his Typographic Design diagram, which as he understands it involves 9 elements: Language, Typesetting, Grid, Hierarchy, Font, Rhythm, Layout, Colour, and Content.

I got my lemon tree! I’ve been wanting to get one for a few weeks, ever since the idea popped into my head whilst thinking about the fact that we have 2 north facing balconies in our apartment and that really they should be put to better use. On Saturday I had a bit of a panic when a green bug appeared on my tree, thanks to some googling and tweets, too my horror I discovered it’s something called a stink bug!

…Well the stink bug has since been vacated from the tree, and yesterday whilst doing a “bug check” I found that the first flower had opened up and I got a bit excited and took a few photos :)

Greenups October: Art and green are coming together, all over the world

Next Tuesday 6th October will see art markers, students, appreciators and collectors, as well as those interested in the future of the green scene, assemble at the Beauchamp Hotel for the first international greenups collaboration!
